Game-drive schedules adapt daily for dawn and late-afternoon light windows. Small group sizes ensure unobstructed access and maximum time at active subjects.

Day by Day

Your Itinerary

Each day is presented in order, with the exact timing adjusted around flights, wildlife movement, and guest pace.

01

Nairobi Arrival and Pre-Departure Brief

Arrive in Nairobi and meet your Vard Africa guide. Evening briefing on wildlife targets, light windows, and daily structure. Review of camera settings and vehicle equipment. Overnight in Nairobi before the first fly-out.

02

Fly to Mara Conservancy - Afternoon Light Session

Morning flight to the Mara ecosystem. Arrive midday with time to settle in. Late afternoon drive timed for the golden light that defines this season. First compositions: open landscape, scattered herds, acacia silhouettes.

03

Pre-Dawn Big Cat Session

Depart camp before first light to intercept big cat movement. This season offers exceptional cheetah and leopard visibility on short-grass terrain. Spend the full morning focused on behavioral photography - hunts, kills, and family interaction.

04

Full Day Photography - Landscape and Wildlife

Full day structured entirely around photographic opportunity. Dawn drive, midday rest at camp, extended late-afternoon session. The guide monitors real-time predator positions and positions the vehicle for clean backgrounds, ideal angles, and optimal light.

05

Transfer to Laikipia - Altitude and Open Terrain

Fly north to Laikipia. The plateau's higher altitude and open ranch landscapes create a distinct visual register from the Mara. Afternoon session: reticulated giraffe, elephants, and the drama of Laikipia's rugged escarpments.

06

Rhinos, Rare Wildlife, and Conservation Stories

Focused session at Ol Pejeta or a neighbouring conservancy. Rhino photography in open terrain. Laikipia's endangered species - wild dog, pangolin, Grevy's zebra - offer rare photographic subjects. Conservation storytelling built into the guide narrative.

07

Optional Helicopter Aerial Session

For guests selecting the aerial option: morning helicopter flight over the conservancy for landscape and wildlife photography from altitude. Herd movement, river corridors, and the geometry of the plateau are extraordinary from above. Afternoon ground drive to close out Laikipia.

08

Night Photography and Nocturnal Wildlife

Dedicated night drive and long-exposure photography session. Your guide uses specialist lights to minimise disturbance while maximizing nocturnal sightings. Aardvark, pangolin, owls, and active predators are potential subjects.

09

Final Dawn Session and Return to Nairobi

Last pre-dawn drive for any outstanding targets before transferring to the airstrip. Fly back to Nairobi for onward international connections.
