Story Worth Telling
Mount Kulal Expeditions
Mount Kulal rises above the eastern shore of Lake Turkana to 2,285 metres — dramatically enough above the desert floor that its summit catches cloud and supports a montane forest ecosystem of specific botanical and ecological interest. The mountain was designated a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve in 1978. From the summit, the view encompasses Lake Turkana's full eastern shore — the Jade Sea's specific colour visible from this elevation as a completely different visual experience from the ground-level perspective.
The Experience
Life at Mount Kulal Expeditions
The Turkana wind that makes boat travel hazardous in the afternoons becomes, from the mountain's summit, an atmospheric spectacle rather than a navigation challenge.
